I'm a multimedia storyteller living in Orlando. Originally from Louisiana, I moved to Florida in 1989 and have lived in the Sunshine State practically ever since.
I've accumulated more than 30 years of newspaper experience, most notably at the Orlando Sentinel for the past 21 years. I accepted a buyout from the company in January and am seeking new opportunities, wherever they may lead.
My background is as a sports writer and content editor, but my interests extend well beyond athletes. I'm interested in opportunities that help shed a light on the good works being done in my community, spotlighting the people who make Central Florida feel like home and chronicling the journeys of those who have overcome adversity to achieve their goals.
When not sharing other people’s stories, I like to spend time with my girlfriend and dog. I also enjoy running -- I've completed three marathons -- cooking and reading (mainly historical nonfiction and sports biographies). "Curb Your Enthusiasm" makes me laugh.
I'm available for freelance, contract or other opportunities. I can be reached at scruiz0324@gmail.com, and my resume is available upon request.
